New version: reservation search, bug fixes and much more

The new version of our app is out on the web and the Playstore. iOS, will follow suit as it takes some extra days to go through the Apple approval process. In this version we have introduced a “Search” feature that allows you to search reservations by client name, phone,  email or, even, a fragment of a note. We have also made many changes and corrections to the reservations calendar and the reservations workflow: Fall back an active reservation to tentative, in case you want to correct a mistake. Allow change of room for a checked-in client. Names of days were […]

Differences between B&B’s, Guesthouses and Hotels

A suggestion from Google Analytics has enlightened us to the fact that a lot of people cannot tell the difference between a Bed & Breakfast, a Guest house and a Hotel. And justifiably so: the terms are not used consistently around the globe, so one cannot draw sharp distinctions. But we would not be far from the truth by saying that there are three key factors that differentiate these types of lodging: 1. Size One can safely say that B&B’s and Guest houses are usually smaller than hotels. They can accommodate less people and they offer a limited set of […]

New seed funding and the way ahead

Today, it was officially announced that we struck a deal with Jeremy Openfund II, for a second round of seed financing, for 300.000 Euros. The agreement came just a few months after the release of our first product (the app Discoveroom Reservations) which has shown traction above expectations. In the time elapsed since product launch we came to realize two important things: small lodges needed  more, in terms of app functionality, than we have initially anticipated travelers were more than eager to try us out than we expected, and were trying to search for accommodation through our app  but they couldn’t  because we have neither […]

About languages, dates and numbers

Discoveroom Reservations’  key design objective is simplicity. This isn’t just to use a nice buzzword, but because there is a business need for simplicity: simplicity allows non tech-savvy users to understand and interact with an application that would otherwise look prohibitive. For this reason, we have not included any kind of language settings for the app, that could potentially perplex inexperienced users and irritate experienced ones. To determine the language of the interface  we use a simple rule: the app follows the device. If there is a translation for the language of the device, then the app will use with the language (and […]

Querying and saving reservations with no network

We have published a new version of Discoveroom Reservations for Android (v 1.1.1). This new version, apart from being significantly faster and slicker, it brings a new and very important feature: one can create and retrieve reservations while being completely offline (no wifi or carrier network). The offline mode is lightning fast and allows quick views of the already entered reservations. The offline database is not a complete replica of the cloud database though. The offline data are accumulated gradually. Each time a set reservations appear in the user’s calendar for a selected time span, the relevant reservations are added […]

From Italy with love

A few days back we got an email with the very encouraging title “Great App”. The mail was from Philippe, an Italian B&B owner (Maison du Noyer) from the Aosta valley, and was congratulating us for the Discoveroom Reservations app. As if this was not enough, Philippe volunteered to translate the app in Italian for a very good reason: “for my mother who has trouble with English”, he said! How can we not be touched by the compliment and the offer for help? We had to oblige. So, we sent Philippe the English strings and he promptly mailed us back […]

Top 10 winter-ski destinations in Greece (Infographic)

“Baby, it’s cold outside” if you believe the old Christmas song of Frank Loesser.  But unlike the flirtatious gentleman of the song, we support the lady’s desire to go outside, out there, to the cold, where she can find ample fun skiing. So, here is a short guide for you, in the form of an infographic, with the top 10 ski destinations in Greece. The ranking is calculated based on the existing facilities in each destinations  and the number of people visiting. The numbers were kindly provided  by our good friends of Ski Greece. We hope you will find it useful. Click […]

Business Cards with a little help from our friends

[layerslider id=”101″]     It is  time, if not already late, that we have to design and print our business cards. I personally find the process boring although the visuals of the card designs can be really interesting. There is a question though that can never be answered upfront reliably: will the people that we hand over our cards find them appealing?  How can we know before committing to a large print batch? One might argue that it is not terribly important  and that the cards can be changed anytime. Maybe. But the issue at play is to listen and […]
