Swipe, list sorting and calendar enhancements for the mobile apps

We published today a new version for our Android and iOS apps. This new version (1.3.003 and 1.3.0 respectively) brings the two platforms in sync and features some exciting enhancements with the most important one being the overhaul of the Dashboard.

Dashboard

After examining the way our users interact with the app and the dashboard, in particular, we thought that were many more actions that we could allow users to perform from the dashboard, and save them a significant amount of time, especially for purely administrative tasks like check-ins and check-outs.

So, we introduced two groups  of actions that can be triggered with a swipe gesture:

  • actions that relate to the state of a reservation
  • all the other actions

Swipe a reservation to the right in dashboard and it will reveal a button that will move the reservation to the next stage upon tap:

  • Tentative to Active
  • Active to Checked-In
  • Checked-In to Checked-Out

Swipe a reservation to the left and it will reveal a screen with all the other actions you may need to perform on a reservation:

  • Revoke confirmation
  • Edit Reservation
  • Cancel Reservation
  • Change Room
  • Show History

Lists

The second most important change  (and a much requested one) is that we now allow you to reorder the room and room type lists to your liking by dragging and dropping each room to the position you prefer.

Alternatively, you can view all these lists sorted alphabetically. The list of reservation on the dashboard can also now be sorted by date either from past to future or from future to past.

Calendar

The room sorting is reflected in the calendar too and, actually, this was the prime motivator for the change.

Another minor, but much-requested addition, is the display of the month names in the calendar.

To save some screen space and make the calendar viewing less cluttered,  when in landscape mode, the navigation bar is hidden.

Miscellaneous

Having Search in a separate menu item proved less practical, so we moved it on the top right of the Dashboard screen.

We have also introduced a mechanism to highlight the most important new features, once a new version runs for the first time on a device.

As usual, we made some UI changes too and we fixed a few bugs.

We have a lot more usability changes planned for the near future, but even with these ones, we trust that you will find the apps a lot more friendly and useful.
